Tell us a little bit about your experience with your doctor.
My experience was scary at first, but the minute Dr. Tanner walked in the door he made me feel very comfortable. He had a great bedside manor and he was very up front about the surgery. He took the time to answer all my questions. Best of all he gave me a lot of hope!
Take us through your decision making process to have weight loss surgery.
I started having high blood pressure, joint and back pain and started becoming very short of breath easily. I saw a picture of myself and said “Oh my gosh! Is that me at 300 pounds?” At that moment I realized I needed to get help and do something about my weight.
Have you had any complications since surgery? How far post operatively were you when you developed this?
I haven’t had any complications since the surgery!
How has weight loss surgery changed your life?
I feel great. I also have lots of energy and can do things that I never could before. It’s like I got my life back, only better!
When did you attend your first support group?
My family has served as my support group. Both my mother-in-law and brother have had the surgery.
How has surgery affected any pre-existing medical conditions?
About 3 months after my surgery I stopped taking my blood pressure medication. I also stopped my back and joint pain medication. Now all I take is a multi-vitamin!
Did you do a lot of physical activity before surgery? How about now?
Before surgery I didn’t participate in much physical activity at all. But now, after the surgery I walk everyday and workout at least three days a week! It’s so amazing to be able to do all that and it makes me feel so good about myself.
How did you feel about asking the doctors questions?
I never had any problem asking Dr. Tanner questions. He has a great (and fun) personality and he was very approachable and supportive.
Would you recommend Norton Weight Management Services to others? Why?
Yes. Absolutely, yes! I would recommend the program to anyone, and I have! It has given me a new, healthier life!
What advice would you give someone who is considering having bariatric surgery?
I would tell them to go through the whole program, it’s important to be willing to talk with nutritionists and have a support group after the surgery. Norton Weight Management Services is really comprehensive in its approach which is unique from other programs. Also, make sure to exercise and follow your doctor’s orders!
What was the best thing about having weight loss surgery?
I have so much more self esteem now. I feel great and I have a lot of energy to be able to do things I never could before. Plus, I am so much healthier!
Anything else you would like to add?
I would tell anyone not to think twice about the surgery. I would do it all over again! Words cannot describe how much better you feel after the surgery and as you lose weight. It’s the best decision I ever made!
