Nutritional Education

Bariatric surgery requires lifelong dietary changes. After surgery, patients are restricted in the amount of food they are able to consume at one time. Because of this restriction, it is essential to make healthy food choices at each meal to ensure appropriate nutrition.

Norton Weight Management Services provides patients with nutritional education prior to surgery. One-on-one sessions with a registered dietician help patients better understand the diet progression for each type of weight-loss surgery being considered, as well as the eating behavior changes that will have to be made for post-operation success. Group sessions also are offered before surgery to provide tips for patients as they make necessary dietary and lifestyle changes. Once admitted for surgery, a registered dietician reviews the personalized bariatric diet with the patient.

The registered dietitians of the Norton Weight Management Services are committed to helping patients succeed with their new lifestyle and weight management goals and are available to answer questions and provide dietary assistance throughout the program.
