Positron emission tomography (PET)

A PET scan is a nuclear medicine procedure to produce images of the body's biological functions. The PET scan is capable of detecting certain diseases earlier than conventional diagnostic imaging because this technology captures chemical and physiological changes related to metabolism. This is important since functional changes in tissue often are present before they are evident as structural changes. The PET scan takes approximately two hours.
