Want to help?

We are now accepting applications to our 2015 summer volunteen program. Applications will be accepted March 1 to 31. Teens selected for the program will be notified by April 17 and will be asked to attend a mandatory training in early May (date to be determined). Late applications will not be accepted.

Volunteers bring a very special "high touch" to a "high-tech" world. Being a volunteer adds an extra warmth that is appreciated by our patients, their families and our staff. Volunteers are exceptional people who take the extra steps to make a difference in another person's life. Volunteering is a great learning experience and an excellent way to meet people and make new friends.

Volunteer opportunities are available in patient and non-patient areas. You do not need any special skills. We will provide the training you need.

Areas Volunteers are Needed

  • Gift shop attendant: Assists in sales, cashiering and stocking merchandise

  • Wayfinder and greeter: Provides directions and escorts patients and visitors to their destination

  • Office assistant: Provides support for multiple clerical and administrative departments

  • Patient/family ambassador: Provides information and support to patients and family members

  • First Impression Team (F.I.T.) members: Work with our information desk attendants to assist patients getting to their destinations, providing directions and family support

  • Valet assistant: Assists patients from the valet station to the information desk, doctors offices and waiting areas

Meet "Squirrel." Squirrel is a former shelter rescue cat and one of only a few felines that have passed the extensive training required to be a WAGS-certified therapy pet.

WAGS (Wonderful Animals Giving Support) Pet Therapy of Kentucky Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer organization based in Louisville since 1999. WAGS members believe in the special – often healing – bond between people and animals. The mission of WAGS is to bring people and pets together for companionship and therapy.

WAGS joined Norton Hospital downtown in August 2012, and volunteers have completed more than 65 hours visiting patients, families and staff. Squirrel visits adults and children on Norton Healthcare's downtown campus to brighten their day during a hospital stay.
