Volunteer at Norton Suburban Hospital

In 1972, at a time when most eastern Jefferson County was farmland, a group of visionary local physicians realized a dream with the opening of Suburban Hospital. Today, under the not-for-profit ownership of Norton Healthcare, the medical staff at Norton Suburban Hospital, a 343-bed acute care facility, includes more than 1,200 physicians. Norton Suburban offers a full range of diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency and surgical services in a convenient east Louisville location. Having a quality care option so close to home means easier access to hospitalization and outpatient care for patients and families.

Want to help?

Becoming a Norton Suburban Hospital Volunteer is your chance to really make a difference and touch people's lives, and all for just a few hours of your time. Make a difference in the lives of others; volunteer your time and talents at Norton Suburban Hospital. Volunteering is a great opportunity to give back to your community and help others in need. Caring and compassionate people are needed to help in clinical and nonclinical departments.

Our Greatest Need

Currently, we are accepting immediate applications for volunteers who serve as patient and family escorts. Hospitals can be difficult and intimidating places to navigate during what can be an emotional time.

As part of your role, you’ll be able to interact with patients and families while you walk with them to their appointments. This is a great opportunity to learn about what makes our hospital and staff so special, and explore other areas of interest for future volunteering.

Other volunteer opportunities

  • Admitting/outpatient registration attendant: Assist patients with signing in, escort patients and greet people in waiting area.

  • Campus shuttle driver: Drive hospital shuttle on campus taking patients and guests to their destinations.

  • Hospitality cart attendant: Take cart to hospital waiting areas offering guests complimentary soft drinks and snacks.

  • Waiting room liaison: Provide assistance to guests in hospital waiting areas, offering blankets, activities, beverages and updates about their loved ones.

  • Information desk attendant: Answer a multiline phone, provide directions and exhibit excellent customer service at all times.
