What to bring for labor and delivery

It's a good idea to plan in advance so you're not searching the house for items at the last minute when it's time to go to the hospital. Print this list and add your own items so you're ready to go on the big day.

Bring to the Hospital

  • Insurance identification card(s) and photo ID for verification during registration or check-in
  • Any papers your doctor has given you (permits, lab orders, history, etc.)
  • Eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids or dentures, if you need them, along with cleaning solutions and storage cases
  • Overnight bag with personal items for you and your baby (Leave these items in the car until you are moved from the Labor & Delivery room to your Couplet Care room.)
  • Camera, with film or a storage device and batteries
  • Coins for vending machines
  • Lists of phone numbers to call, long-distance calling card or cell phone

Our Visitor Guidelines address the use of cameras, video cameras, cell phones, PDAs and laptops during your hospital stay.

Items for Mother

  • Nightgown or pajamas that button down the front
  • Robe and slippers
  • Underwear - regular or nursing bra, panties
  • Toiletries, including sanitary pads
  • Loose-fitting clothes to wear home

Items for Baby

  • Receiving blanket
  • Clothes for baby to wear home
  • Infant car seat

If you brought personal electrical items (for example, razors, hair dryers or fans), ask your nurse to contact the hospital maintenance staff to schedule a required inspection before using these items. Cooking equipment may not be used in patient rooms.
