Norton Healthcare is Named Among Kentucky’s Best Places to Work

LOUISVILLE , KY. (March 30, 2006): Norton Healthcare has been named the 20th best place to work in Kentucky , according to the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management’s Top 21 Best Places to Work ranking. The names of the top 21 companies were released in December, but their specific rankings were not announced until an awards luncheon at the Lexington Convention Center today.

“We are extremely proud of this designation because the most important factor in achieving the Top 21 designation was a confidential survey completed by nearly 200 of our own employees,” said Stephen A. Williams, president and CEO of Norton Healthcare. “We work very hard to provide innovative benefits and an atmosphere that encourages employees to enjoy their work, so it is extremely gratifying to have those efforts recognized.”

Respondents had the opportunity to provide ratings based on their individual employee experience, their experience in their particular work group or team, and their experience of Norton Healthcare as a whole. In addition to the employee survey, the selection process also included an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures.

Norton Healthcare, which has more than 9,300 employees and is Louisville ’s third largest private employer, was included in the large companies category – those employing more than 200 people.

In addition to today’s award, Norton Healthcare has been named Outstanding Employer of the Year in 2005 and 2003 by KentuckianaWorks; has been honored by Greater Louisville Inc. for developing programs that allow its employees to balance their work and home lives; and has been recognized by The Housing Partnership for its innovative Employer Assisted Housing Program, among other honors.

Best Places to Work is led by the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management. The concept arose from Fortune magazine’s annual “100 Best Companies to Work for in America ” issue, and the goal is to raise the bar among Kentucky ’s employers and employees to create excellence in the workplace. This is the second year for the program.

The Top 21 employers were chosen based on a large number of criteria. They include corporate culture issues such as an organization’s mission statement and ethics policy; employee development programs such as mentoring, tuition assistance, training and recognition programs; the availability of flexible work schedules; health benefits such as medical, dental and vision plans, disability benefits and on-site health screenings; communication practices such as newsletters, an intranet site and employee surveys; and corporate citizenship.
