Norton Healthcare Announces Name Selection for New Community Hospital at Old Brownsboro Crossing: Norton Brownsboro Hospital
LOUISVILLE, KY. (September 13, 2006): Norton Healthcare this evening announced the name selection for its 127-bed community hospital being planned for the Old Brownsboro Crossing development in northeast Jefferson County: Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
Norton officials announced the name selection at this evening’s open house celebration for Norton Medical Plaza at Old Brownsboro Crossing, which opened July 10. The new 127-bed hospital will be built adjacent to the 86,000 square-foot Norton Medical Plaza, which features a large primary care physician practice, a Norton Immediate Care Center, a Norton Diagnostic Center, and office space for primary- and specialty-care physicians.
To develop the new name, Norton Healthcare, over the past two months, solicited suggested hospital names from OBC-area residents, employees, physicians, volunteers, board members and other constituents. Norton received nearly 700 name suggestions from a total of about 500 people. A committee narrowed the list to 10 and then three finalist names, which were taken to three focus groups of area residents. Focus group participants indicated an overriding preference for Norton Brownsboro Hospital, which had been suggested by 24 people. The Norton Healthcare Board of Trustees then approved the new name last week.
"Focus group participants just about universally liked the Norton Brownsboro Hospital name because it identifies the geographic part of town where our new hospital will be located – just off Brownsboro Road in the eastern part of Louisville,” said Russell F. Cox, chief operating officer. “Our Board of Trustees was delighted with the overwhelming response we received to the request for name suggestions, and was convinced by the focus group feedback that Norton Brownsboro Hospital was the right choice.
“Focus group participants also provided us with valuable input about the kind of hospital area residents expect us to build at Old Brownsboro Crossing. They expect a hospital that features patient and guest convenience, large private rooms allowing for easy family interactions, a hotel-like feel in the lobby, and state-of-the-art equipment and operating rooms. That’s exactly what we plan to deliver,” Cox concluded.
Construction of Norton Brownsboro Hospital will begin early next summer, and the hospital will open in two phases: 80 beds in January 2009, and 47 beds in late 2011. While Norton Healthcare is still planning the exact services the new hospital will provide, the system expects to have a 24-hour emergency room, inpatient care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, intensive care services, a full range of outpatient and diagnostic services, orthopedic and cardiovascular services, and others yet to be determined. It will be the first new hospital built in Louisville in nearly 30 years.
