LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 14, 2012) – As construction begins on the Norton Suburban Hospital campus to develop a focus for women and children, a comfortable patient experience remains key. The hospital will remain fully functional during construction and will continue to provide a relaxing experience for patients and their families. Positive changes have already started taking shape before the heavy construction begins, including in-room spa services and valet parking for patients and visitors.
Joseph’s Salon & Spa has partnered with Norton Women’s Care in hopes of transforming an expectant or new mother’s hospital stay into one of relaxation and rejuvenation. Joseph’s now offers in-room spa services and Aveda aromatherapy to patients on the mother/baby and antepartum units at Norton Suburban Hospital, future home of Norton Women’s and Kosair Children’s Hospital – St. Matthews. Expectant mothers on inpatient bed rest, who may be at the hospital for a long period of time, are also given Aveda toiletry gift bags to use during their stay.
Stephanie Rosenthal has been in the ante-partum unit at Norton Suburban Hospital for more than three weeks. Her parents and stepdaughter thought a spa package would be just what she needed to remain comfortable while spending most of her time in bed.
“Women from Joseph’s came directly to my room to give me a manicure and pedicure,” Rosenthal said. “It felt so wonderful, and it was nice to finally look down and feel like I was a little more put together. They had music with them and gave me a foot rub — it was everything I could have gotten if I were in an actual salon, and to have that relaxation was wonderful.”
In-room spa services include everything from pedicures to massages, hair styling and more. Rosenthal said that it is definitely a service she would recommend for expectant and new mothers. Joseph’s hasn’t forgotten about the fathers, either. The “Dads Need Love Too” package offers a 45-minute massage with hand detail, as well as Aveda men’s shaving cream, hand relief and lip saver. While the spa services have started by serving mothers and fathers visiting the facility, the services will become available to all patients of the hospital upon completion of the transformation in 2014.
Starting on Monday, June 18, valet service will be available at two entrances at Norton Suburban Hospital. From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, staff provided by Towne Park will assist patients and their families by valet parking their vehicles free of charge. Stations at the hospital’s main entrance and emergency department entrance will ensure families have one less thing to worry about. Towne Park is a leading provider of parking management and a highly reputable partner to add to the Norton Suburban team.
“It is important that during this time of change we make sure patients know they are our focus. Our patients are our first priority, and new amenities such as the spa and valet services will ensure that they feel welcome and at home in our facility, no matter what they are going through,” said Charlotte Ipsan, RNC, MSN, NNP-BC, president, Norton Women’s and Kosair Children’s Hospital – St. Matthews.
