DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that honors the skillful, compassionate work nurses do every day as well as raises funds for nursing research and recognizes nursing faculty. The foundation was formed by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at age 33 of an immune system disease and received exceptional nursing care during his last weeks of life.
