Pastoral Services
Chaplains offer comfort and support to families and caregivers throughout a child's hospital stay. As part of Norton Healthcare's pastoral care team, chaplains provide a compassionate presence through difficult times as well as help family members cope with news of a child's illness and show unconditional love.
Chaplains:
- Baptize children at the request of parents/caregivers pending surgery or critical situations
- Pray over children who are preparing for surgery
- Comfort and sit with parents who are upset
- Listen to parents who are angry about their child's situation
- Attend care conferences with parents who are receiving updates on their child's condition
- Spend time with parents and families in cases of terminal illness
- Provide comfort and debriefing for grieving nurses
- Attend and assist in the emergency department during trauma cases
- Pray with family members/caregivers and others upon request
A chaplain is on call 24 hours a day/7 days a week and can be reached by pager at (502) 421-5665 or by calling the hospital operator at (502) 421-5665.
