Gynecology Services
Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Kosair Children's Hospital is a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology that deals with the unique gynecologic needs of the young female, from birth to age 21.
The Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Fellowship at the University of Louisville, which has been in existence for 10 years, trains one fellow every year. It is the only such training program in the world and focuses on laparoscopic management of many gynecologic surgical problems, including ovarian cyst resection and laparoscopic creation of neovaginas in patients born with vaginal agenesis. This fellowship and its commitment to excellence and education strengthen Kosair Children's Hospital's ability to provide comprehensive care to its patients.
The conditions listed below are among the most common treated at the hospital. Kosair Children's Hospital also offers a GYN Clinic and our Birth Control Clinic/Teenage Preventive Pregnancy Program.

- Pediatric vulvovaginitis
- Ovarian masses, cysts and tumors
- Sexual abuse
- Pubertal aberration
- Ambiguous genitalia
- Menstrual disorders in teenagers
- Pelvic pain
- Vaginal agenesis (surgical/non-surgical creation of neovagina)
Services provided:
- Gynecological care for the pediatric adolescent patient
- Pap smears
- Birth control
- Preventive gynecologic care (the American College of OB/GYN's recommends a gynecologic preventive health visit for every teenage girl between the ages of 13 and 15, 16 and 19, and again between the ages of 20 and 21.)
