Just for Kids Transport Team
The "Just for Kids" Transport Team plays an important role in assuring children from all across Kentucky and neighboring states have access to the medical expertise and pediatric services offered at Kosair Children's Hospital. With a specially-equipped mobile intensive care unit affectionately called the "Baby Buggy," an airplane and a helicopter, the team provides transportation for young patients in need of sophisticated, sometimes life-sustaining, emergency care.
At Kosair Children's Hospital, we recognize that children are not small adults and must be cared for differently. Professionals trained in and dedicated to working with children, like the staff of the "Just for Kids" Transport Team, know the difference and deliver the special care children require. The transport team is made up of nurses, respiratory therapists and emergency medical technicians.
More than 70% of the babies in Kosair Children's Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit are brought there by the transport team because more premature babies surviving at smaller birth rates and other hospitals in the region are not equipped to deal with the special needs of the littlest of babies. Many children in the "Just for Kids" Critical Care Unit also rely on the "Just for Kids" team to bring them to Kosair Children's for specialized care.
