Fibromyalgia

It is estimated that approximately one in 50 Americans has fibromyalgia. For these individuals, the widespread, long-term joint and muscle pain, accompanied by severe depression, anxiety and fatigue, is debilitating. If you suffer from fibromyalgia, you know firsthand the drastic effects it can have on a person’s daily life.

At Norton Healthcare, our physicians are dedicated to providing relief for individuals living with fibromyalgia. While there is no known cure, we are committed to offering customized treatment plans to help those living with the disease lead a quality, productive life.

Our physicians understand that symptoms vary from one person to the next and that there is a need for individualized evaluation. Treatment is tailored to each patient and may include one or more of the following:

  • Medication
  • Injections
  • Aqua therapy
  • Psychotherapy

We also coordinate any additional care needed with the necessary specialists. Our ultimate goal in fibromyalgia treatment is to help relieve the pain and other symptoms associated with this condition.

For more information about fibromyalgia or to make an appointment with a fibromyalgia specialist, call Norton Healthcare at (502) 629-1234.

Learn more about fibromyalgia:

Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

Widespread muscle pain is the most common symptom of fibromyalgia. This pain may be an all-over ache or burning or shooting pains throughout the body, sometimes originating from the joints.

Other symptoms may include:

  • Tension or migraine headaches
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Memory and concentration issues
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet

    Diagnosing Fibromyalgia

While there is no specific test to diagnose fibromyalgia, your physician may suspect the condition if you suffer from widespread pain (with no underlying cause) that lasts at least three months, particularly if you exhibit other associated symptoms. You also may be given blood and urine tests to rule out conditions that have similar symptoms.
