Community Initiatives Funding Process

Norton Healthcare is a not-for-profit, charitable, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) private corporation. Its mission is to provide quality health care services based on community need and consistent with its faith-based heritage. To further its mission as well as maintain not-for-profit status, Norton Healthcare invests its resources in other not-for-profit organizations in our community. These organizations must meet one or more specific criteria set by Norton Healthcare, relative to community benefit and outreach.

In addition, Norton Healthcare's two internal philanthropic foundations, the Children's Hospital Foundation and Norton Healthcare Foundation, support initiatives within the Norton Healthcare system only. The Norton Healthcare Foundation raises funds and awareness for Norton Healthcare's adult-service facilities and service lines, including Norton Women's Care, Norton Cancer Institute, Norton Neuroscience Institute, Norton Heart Care and others. The Children's Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of Kosair Children's Hospital, raises support and awareness for pediatric programs and services as well as workforce, research and facility enhancements at Kosair Children's Hospital.

The following organizations, events, etc., are not eligible for funding through Norton Healthcare:

  • Individuals
  • Community foundations
  • Organizations that discriminate against race, gender or creed
  • Religious organizations or activities that are denominational or sectarian in purpose and do not have broad community benefit
  • “Brick and mortar” capital projects or initiatives
  • Support that requires ongoing or long-term funding (e.g., establishing personnel positions) when such sustained funding sources are not identified
  • Generally, no funding for galas, golf tournaments, arts-related events, team sponsorships, walks, runs, bike-a-thons, etc.

Application process

  • All requests must be submitted in electronic form via the following application to Norton Healthcare Community Initiatives. Any supporting documentation may be sent to the following address with a copy of the application form as a cover sheet:

  • The chief development officer (or designee) completes an initial review to ensure the application is complete.
  • The application is processed for review by the Community Initiatives Committee.
  • The Community Initiatives Committee meets on a monthly basis, and all applications are reviewed at that time. Please note that any requests for sponsorships of special events must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the event.
