Sandra E. Brooks, M.D., MBA
System Vice President Research and Prevention, Norton Healthcare
Dr. Brooks joined Norton Healthcare in October 2006 and she is charged with leading strategic and programmatic research, health disparities, prevention and wellness activities for Norton Healthcare, a five hospital health system in Louisville, KY. With the recently created Norton Healthcare Centers for Prevention and Wellness, Dr. Brooks leads a team that encompasses prevention of chronic disease and cancer. Special focus areas include outreach to strategically identified underserved communities, employer groups and NHC employees through prevention and wellness initiatives.
Dr. Brooks was a Phi Beta Kappa and AOA graduate of Howard University, completing her undergraduate and medical degrees at Howard University in 6 years. She then went on to complete a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania and Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Prior to joining Norton Healthcare, Dr. Brooks was Professor and Director of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Maryland. She has published numerous articles on health disparities and health outcomes. She holds a voluntary faculty appointment at the University of Kentucky School of Public Health as a full professor.
Dr. Brooks has been the recipient of a number of awards for her work and was the 2011 recipient of the Excellence in Community Service award from Jewish and St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation at the 16th Annual Doctor’s Ball. During this signature Louisville Award ceremony, Dr. Brooks was one of six health leaders in Louisville to be honored for excellence in leadership, innovation and service.
