Institute for Nursing

In 2011, 61 employees enrolled in higher education programs through the Lifelong Learning Initiative offered through the Office of Workforce Development and the Norton Healthcare Institute for Nursing.

Other programs include a patient care associate (PCA) retention program, a certificate in perioperative nursing.

Institute for Nursing led an effort to implement a research mentor model for nursing at Norton Healthcare. Jill Berger, R.N., spearheaded the effort to establish a framework and support system for nursing research in all the hospitals and to generate clinical nursing studies conducted by direct care nurses.

The Center for Nursing Outreach collaborates with regional hospitals to promote nursing education within all facilities, to assist in providing online educational courses in a variety of settings and to encourage nurses from the broader community to participate in Norton Healthcare’s excellent educational opportunities.

The Institute for Nursing also seeks to improve the quality of patient care in our community by looking beyond the traditional “four walls” of the hospital for opportunities to promote health and wellness.
