Members of the Inclusion Council.

Definition

Diversity encompasses all of the ways that human beings are both different and similar.

Inclusion is our process for fully utilizing the diverse backgrounds, characteristics and skills inherent in every person to help us meet our organizational goals, live our values and provide the best possible care to those we serve.

Guidelines/Principles

We will pursue our mission to improve the health of our community and all those within it by maintaining an inclusive environment in which our employees, suppliers, volunteers, medical staff and leadership understand, respect and reflect the diversity of the people we serve, and continuously strive to set the standard for quality and caring.

Key long-term objectives

Attention to inclusion will support and serve Norton Healthcare’s mission and business case in the following ways:

Best talent: As the demographics of our pool of well-qualified candidates continue to change, attention to inclusion will enable us to hire, develop, retain and fully engage the best employees.

Best medical outcomes: Similarly, the rapidly changing demographics and cultural characteristics of our patients and families and those we serve deserve continuous and consistent demonstration of the highest levels of respect and understanding of their diverse needs to retain their confidence as the provider of choice in their communities, affording them the best quality, caring and medical outcomes available.

Innovation: A well-led, inclusive environment will enable us to recognize, value and proactively welcome and embrace the individual experiences, ideas, perspectives and outlooks of all employees. An inclusive culture will greatly contribute to innovation and problem solving as we continuously improve our ability to enhance our care delivery models and to meet the overall mission and vision of Norton Healthcare.

Stewardship: Attention to diversity and inclusion will help enhance the financial stability of our organization by obtaining and managing high-quality, cost-effective suppliers; enhance revenues by increasing market share in all communities and qualifying for single-payer opportunities and government contracts; and limiting potential liability to our reputation and assets by avoiding complaints and lawsuits.
