Minimally Invasive Joint Replacement

Minimally Invasive Joint Replacement

Minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, also known as less invasive surgery, allows the surgeon to replace a knee or hip joint with minimal trauma and disruption to soft tissue. While the artificial implants used for minimally invasive procedures are the same as with traditional methods, the instruments used are specially designed to create smaller incisions in skin, muscle, tendons, ligaments and bone around the joint.

Benefits of Minimally Invasive Joint Replacement

Minimally invasive surgery allows for several benefits, including:

  1. Smaller incisions
  2. Reduced blood loss
  3. Less damage to soft tissue, such as muscles and tendons
  4. No risk of complications associated with general anesthesia
  5. Faster recovery and less postoperative pain
  6. Less rehabilitation
  7. Shorter hospital stay

More and more people needing total knee or hip replacement surgery are opting for minimally invasive procedures. Before deciding if minimally invasive joint replacement is right for you, meet with your surgeon for a thorough evaluation. Your surgeon will help you understand the risks and benefits involved with each type of procedure.
