Music Therapy Services at Norton Healthcare
Music therapy is offered free of charge at all Norton Healthcare hospitals, including Kosair Children's Hospital. In fact, Norton Audubon Hospital was the first hospital in the region to offer medical music therapy.
Music therapy can take place in a group setting, one-on-one or with families. Our board-certified music therapists work with the patient, family and care team to complete an assessment, establish goals and develop a treatment plan. The music therapist establishes a relationship with the patient and family, and works closely with them to help create positive and successful outcomes during a hospital stay.
Music therapy may include:
- Playing instruments
- Guided relaxation
- Listening to music
- Writing songs
- Discussing songs
- Moving to music
Music therapy complements a patient's existing treatment plan and does not replace traditional medical treatment. It is used with people recovering from a variety of conditions, medical and surgical procedures, in rehabilitation, as part of cancer care and as a comfort to patients and families at the end of life.
