Norton Healthcare has been granted a three-year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Norton Healthcare is the only health care network in Kentucky to achieve this accreditation for all its adult-service facilities. The NAPBC grants accreditation only to those centers that demonstrate the highest level of quality breast care during a careful evaluation process.
During the extensive performance review by the NAPBC, Norton Healthcare demonstrated expertise in treating women diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards reviewed included:
- Center leadership
- Clinical management
- Community outreach
- Professional education
- Quality improvement
Compliance with these standards allows Norton Healthcare to provide patients with every significant advantage during a trying time in their lives.
"Accreditation by the NAPBC lets our patients know we are here to provide state-of-the-art services and treatment options during their battle against breast disease," said Tiffany Berry, M.D., breast surgeon and medical coordinator for the Norton Cancer Institute Breast Health Program. "At Norton Healthcare, we are pleased to provide quality care that's close to home."
According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, close to 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2012. In addition, hundreds of thousands of women will deal with benign breast diseases that require medical evaluation to determine treatment options. Norton Healthcare's accreditation from the NAPBC assures this substantial population access to the highest quality of patient care.
