Orthopedic Oncology

A bone tumor is an abnormal growth of cells that occurs in bone. A tumor also can develop in soft tissue, such as muscle, tendons, nerves or blood vessels. Tumors may be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Orthopedic oncology is a highly specialized orthopedic subspecialty that provides diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors.

Orthopedic Oncology

While our Norton Orthopedic Care specialists often can treat benign tumors, malignant tumors generally are referred to orthopedic oncologists Peter J. Buecker, M.D. and Shawn L. Price. M.D   – who work with a multidisciplinary team of oncologists and radiologists. Dr. Buecker and Dr. Price provide evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal tumors and metastatic lesion. They manage orthopedic conditions in cancer patients, such as fractures, trauma, arthritis, avascular necrosis, osteoporosis or infections, which may require specialized treatment in conjunction with cancer treatment.
