The American Academy of Pediatrics says while the number of teenagers playing organized sports has dropped in the past 10 years, the rate of concussions has more than doubled. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says sports concussions in the U.S. have reached “epidemic levels.”
Rivals.com says besides concussions other common injuries are: knee injuries, ankle sprains, and stress fractures. To help keep our teenagers safe, Norton Healthcare’s staff of highly trained neurology and sports health specialists has set up a sports clinic every Saturday morning during fall sports season. The goal of the sports clinic is to identify injuries before these athletes are allowed to return to the game.
Get Healthy’s Jackie Hays talks with a couple of the Norton Sports Health specialists who will work in the fall clinic.
