When it comes to helping prevent vascular disease , developing a program to encourage a healthier lifestyle or providing advanced medical or surgical care, Norton Heart Care combines compassionate care with some of the most sophisticated technology to offer comprehensive, quality care for patients and families.
Norton Heart Care provides patients with comprehensive vascular services focused on prevention, detection and treatment in a variety of convenient locations. Patients have access to board-certified vascular surgeons and registered and experienced vascular technologists.
Patients have access to vascular services at Norton Audubon Hospital, Norton Hospital, Norton Suburban Hospital and Norton Medical Plaza at Old Brownsboro Crossing. Our hospital-based diagnostic vascular labs are accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
End-stage renal dialysis patients also have access to specialized care through the Norton Audubon Vascular Access Center.

Vascular disease is an umbrella term used to classify a number of specific diseases and disorders that affect arteries and veins outside the heart. Vascular disease can restrict blood flow and typically develops in the abdomen, neck or legs. Left untreated, vascular disease can have devastating consequences. Screenings
A number of screenings to diagnose vascular system blockages are available through the noninvasive vascular labs at Norton Audubon Hospital, Norton Suburban Hospital and Norton Medical Plaza at Old Brownsboro Crossing. The screenings, performed on an outpatient basis, are painless and do not require a physician referral. The cost is $30 each, or $75 for all three. Our Physicians
The surgeons with Norton Vascular Centers treat a wide range of diseases and disorders of the veins and arteries using surgical and nonsurgical methods, with the goal of improving patients’ quality of life by returning them to independence and full functionality.
Our Medical Directors

Dr. Edwards joined the practice in April 2008. Prior to joining Norton Vascular Associates, Dr. Edwards led a number of endovascular surgery programs while at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He also shared his expertise in endovascular procedures in various teaching capacities, and his clinical research in the field of endovascular diseases has been widely published. Dr. Edwards is board certified in vascular surgery. He is a graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago. He completed his residency at the University of Michigan and later earned his fellowship in clinical vascular surgery at Harvard University.

Dr. Klamer joined the practice in 1983 after obtaining his medical degree from Ohio State University. He received his surgical and vascular training from the University of Louisville and the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he served as clinical assistant professor of surgery for two years. Dr. Klamer serves as director of the medical staff and vascular lab at Norton Suburban Hospital. He is an active member of multiple surgical societies, has been appointed to many hospital committees and serves as clinical professor in surgery at the University of Louisville. He also heads the endovascular surgical team. Dr. Klamer has published many articles related to general and vascular surgery, which have been presented at meetings throughout the country.

Dr. Glenn Lambert began his practice in 1979. He graduated from Duke University and obtained his medical degree from Tulane University. He completed his surgical and vascular training at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, the University of Louisville and Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, respectively. Dr. Lambert has served as chairman of the department of surgery at Norton Suburban Hospital and president of the Louisville Surgical Society. Additionally, he serves as clinical professor in surgery at the University of Louisville and is medical director for the Wound Treatment Center at Norton Suburban Hospital. Dr. Lambert has published numerous articles related to limb salvage, which have been presented at national meetings throughout the country.

Amit Dwivedi, M.D., is medical director of Norton Hospital Vascular Lab. He also serves as assistant professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery, at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Dwivedi earned his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai , India . He completed an internship and then a residency in general surgery at Wayne State University in Detroit before completing a fellowship in vascular surgery at North Shore University Hospital/Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Manhasset, N.Y. Dr. Dwivedi is board certified in general and vascular surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association and Greater Louisville Medical Society, among several other national and regional professional medical associations.

Charles Ross, M.D., is medical director of Vascular Services for Norton Hospital and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapeutics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Ross also serves as associate professor of surgery at U of L. He is on the medical staff of the Norton Hospital Vascular Laboratory. Before coming to Louisville, Dr. Ross served as an assistant professor of surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville and as director of endovascular surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He also treated patients at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Nashville. A native of Kentucky, Dr. Ross earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky. He completed an internship as well as a residency in general surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Ross served as an officer in the Kentucky Army National Guard and the United States Naval Reserves. He is board certified in general and vascular surgery. Dr. Ross is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and past president of the Kentucky Vascular Surgical Society. He is a member of several national and regional professional medical societies.

Vascular Access Center Services
Because our center is dedicated only to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, we understand the problems associated with scheduling appointments and procedure room availability when patients have an access complication. With one call to the center, staff can schedule a vascular access intervention that day or, for an elective procedure, usually within 24 hours, meaning no more multiple calls to arrange a procedure.
Patients are seen in a timely manner upon arrival and are typically in and out within a few hours. Dialysis can be arranged the same day, following the access intervention. Coordinated efforts with the patient’s dialysis facility result in superb overall care and an end to delays in dialysis treatment. Patient reports are forwarded to the patient’s dialysis facility within 24 hours of the procedure.
