A Vision for the Future of Kosair Children’s Hospital

Kosair Children’s Hospital, Kentucky ’s only full-service, free-standing hospital for children and one of the largest children’s hospital in the country, has a 116-year history of caring for children from throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The Children’s Hospital Foundation has a vision to ensure the community’s children have access to high-quality, specialized pediatric care well into the future.

ISA's Christmas in July - give a gift for patients at Kosair Children's Hospital

From July 7 to 26, you can drop off a new toy or monetary donation to Santa's “sleigh” at ISA Recycling, located at 7100 Grade Lane. Donations taken during business hours, Mondays through Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon. See a list of needed toys and items.

 

Elementary School raises more than $34,500 for Kosair Children's Hospital

As part of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Kids for Kids program, I.N. Bloom Elementary School students raised funds in March with a “hit the roof” campaign to support diabetes programming at Kosair Children’s Hospital. In just a month, these 494 students, in grades kindergarten through fifth, and 65 faculty members raised $34,500, exceeding the $27,000 they raised in 2007. This year’s amount brings their four year total to $86,500.

“Every Story Makes You a Star” Summer Read-a-Thon

Join the Children’s Hospital Foundation for the “Every Story Makes You a Star” Summer Read-a-Thon.  Download information now.  Students will be rewarded for the number of pledges they collect and submit by Aug. 1, 2008.

Special “Every Story Makes You a Star”  Summer Read-a-Thon events:

  • June 6, at Borders Fourth Street Live! 
  • July 12 at the Borders Book Store on Shelbyville Road
  • July 19 at the Borders Book Store on Hurstbourne Parkway and Taylorsville Road

Read-a-thon winners will be announced at an American Girl Fashion Show® kick-off event  Aug. 22 at the Fourth Steet Live! Borders. 

 

Michala Riggle has goal to build an autism research and treatment center

Michala Riggle, 11, has raised more than $250,000 for a study on glutathione, a tri-peptide (three amino acids linked together) that has helped control autism symptoms for her brother, Evan, and other children. With appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Good Morning America” and several other local and regional programs, Michala is continuing her support of children with autism by raising additional dollars to fund an autism research and treatment center in Louisville.  Learn more about Michala’s story.

Become one of Michala's "peeps." Visit Dee's at 5005 Shelbyville Road to pick up a free beading kit and make bracelets for Michala to sell. Simply return your completed kit to Dee's and receive more supplies. Store hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 to 5 p.m.  For more information call (502) 896-6755.

 
Six Flags Joins Beading to Beat Autism Effort

Guests to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom will have the chance to purchase Michala Riggle’s beaded bracelets at the theme park. Michala and her “peeps” will sell the bracelets throughout the 2008 season including opening day on Saturday, May 10; the water park’s opening day on May 24; and during KidsFest, July 3 to 6. All proceeds from the bracelets will benefit the Michala Riggle Autism Research & Treatment Fund. Join Michala at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom this summer!
