Kids for Kids

Kids for Kids program

Kids for Kids is a service learning initiative that provides the opportunity to participate in fundraising projects to support Kosair Children's Hospital. Participants in our program learn how rewarding it is to contribute to the local community and have fun helping other kids!

We offer a variety of programs for elementary, middle school, high school and universities that we can customize to fit your school.

What are kids and schools doing to help?

  • I.N. Bloom Elementary School students raised funds to support diabetes programming  at Kosair Children's Hospital in March 2008 with a "Hit the Roof" campaign.  In just one month, 500 kindergarten through fifth grade students and 65 faculty members raised $34,500, exceeding the $27,000 they raised in 2007. As part of the  festivities, Jefferson County Public Schools superintendent Sheldon Berman, Ed.D., “hit the roof,” something he agreed to do if the students could raise more than $20,000.

Students at Bloom Elementary School raised $12,000 in March of last year.

  • A Rockin’ for Kids concert raisedmore than $6,000 for the music therapy program at Kosair Children’s Hospital. Even more importantly it helped to provide a venue for kids to help other kids using their musical talents and created awareness about Kosair Children’s Hospital and its needs for support.
  • The Heritage Christian AcademyInaugural dance marathon raised more than $3,000 for Kosair Children's Hospital. Students were so excited about the project that they have involved their newly elected Beta Club officers to start planning for the second annual dance marathon for the 2008-2009 school year. Special thanks to Heritage Christian Academy Beta Club officers, outgoing president Grant Miller and Beta Club advisor Teresa Burks for their efforts in making this event a success.
  • Minors Lane Elementary School created a new project called "10 Point Gain at Minors Lane." They set a goal to improve their CATS scores by 10 points. To kick off their celebration their school worked with the Children's Hospital Foundation to create a service learning project that raised over $1,000 to benefit Kosair Children's Hospital!
  • The third annual University of Louisville Dance Marathon, presented by Chili's Grill & Bar, raised $27,000 cash and in-kind support for Kosair Children's Hospital. Students obtained pledges to stay up for 24-hours, dancing and playing games. Area Chili's restaurants helped promote the event by selling hot air balloon cut outs in their restaurants during the month of March.
