Volunteer at Kosair Children’s Hospital
For more than a century Kosair Children’s Hospital and its predecessor hospitals have provided quality health care for children in Kentucky and Southern Indiana regardless of their families’ ability to pay. Kosair Children’s Hospital is Kentucky’s only full-service, freestanding pediatric care facility dedicated exclusively to caring for children and is an advocate for the health and well-being of all children.

The application process requries adult volunteers to supply two personal references and authorization to perform a background check. Teen volunteers have different requirements, including a parent’s signature. Volunteer office staff will notify references listed and collect reference forms. Once these reference forms and the background check have been received, the prospective volunteer will be notified to schedule an interview.
Volunteers must demonstrate a serious commitment to the volunteer program. This commitment will be evaluated based on interest shown during the interview, the feedback provided on the reference forms, attitude, promptness and neat appearance. Volunteers must comply with Norton Healthcare’s code of conduct, Corporate Compliance and HIPAA regulations. Volunteers must be self-motivated, productive and open to new experiences.
As a children’s hospital, our volunteer screening process is thorough. Our primary goal is to ensure we provide quality care for our patients and their families. Through the application and interview process, Volunteer Services staff gets acquainted with applicants to ensure a successful volunteer placement is made.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
- Morning greeters - Smiling faces are needed to greet guests upon arrival. These volunteers help guests by providing directions, and escorting them to various areas. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon.
- Gift shop - Volunteers are needed to staff hospital gift shops for three-hour evening and weekend shifts. Net proceeds on gift shop purchases benefit the hospital.
- Clerical assistance - There is always a need for help in answering telephones, filing paperwork, etc.
