In 1972, at a time when most eastern Jefferson County was farmland, a group of visionary local physicians realized a dream with the opening of Suburban Hospital. Today, under the not-for-profit ownership of Norton Healthcare, the medical staff at Norton Suburban Hospital, a 343-bed acute care facility, includes more than 1,200 physicians. Norton Suburban offers a full range of diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency and surgical services in a convenient east Louisville location. Having a quality care option so close to home means easier access to hospitalization and outpatient care for patients and families.

Becoming a Norton Suburban Hospital Volunteer is your chance to really make a difference and touch people’s lives, and all for just a few hours of your time. Make a difference in the lives of others; volunteer your time and talents at Norton Suburban Hospital. Volunteering is a great opportunity to give back to your community and help others in need. Caring and compassionate people are needed to help in clinical and nonclinical departments.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

  • Emergency and Radiology departments - Greet and interact with patients and family members in the waiting areas.
  • Outpatient Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) - Interact with patients and family members and help make charts.
  • Mammography - Interact with patients and family members in the waiting areas.
  • Wayfinding - Provide general information and directions; escort patients and guests to their destinations.
  • Comfort Blanket maker - Make comfort blankets for inpatients.

There are many areas in need of volunteers and scheduling is flexible. Complete and return a volunteer application or visit any hospital volunteer office. The application explains requirements for those over and under age 18. All volunteers will be interviewed, are required to attend an orientation, and have a 2-step TB skin test. Adult volunteers also are required to authorize a criminal background check as part of the application process.
