Genetic Counseling Services
Norton Genetic Counseling Services, a part of Norton Cancer Institute, offers genetic counseling, cancer risk assessments, education and genetic testing for cancer patients and/or individuals with a family history of cancer. This service is staffed by a physician and a genetic counselor who specializes in cancer genetics and hereditary cancer syndromes.
This physician-counselor team carefully evaluates each patient's family history, conducts a personal cancer risk assessment, provides information about genetic testing (if appropriate) and, based on test results, discusses options for cancer treatment, screening and prevention.
If you are concerned about your family's history of cancer, or if any of these characteristics describe your personal or family history, consider scheduling an appointment to speak with a genetic counselor at Norton Cancer Institute:
- Cancer diagnosed at an early age (50 years old or younger)
- Multiple family members diagnosed with cancer
- Two or more types of cancer occurring in the same person
- Male breast cancer
- Family member diagnosed as having a hereditary type of cancer
- Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and family history of breast or ovarian cancer
