Abscess drainage
One of the most significant developments in medicine in recent years is the ability to drain infected fluid that has collected. Once an abscess has been identified, no preparation is required. Ultrasound or computed tomography (CT) locates the abscess and guides the physician in needle insertion. Once the needle reaches the abscess it is exchanged for a wire and drainage catheter, which coils in the abscess and provides continuous drainage of the infected fluid.
