Arthroscopic Surgery
Norton Orthopaedic Care is dedicated to helping you return to your normal activities as soon as possible following an injury. That’s why we specialize in minimally invasive procedures such as arthroscopic surgery in which orthopaedic surgeons use a pencil-sized instrument to look inside a joint to visualize, diagnose and treat joint problems.
The arthroscope, a flexible fiberoptic scope, is so slim that it can be inserted into the joint through one or more tiny “keyhole” cuts through the skin, and can be used to treat a wide range of joint conditions, including rotator cuff tendon tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, recurrent dislocations, inflammation of joint linings and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in the knee.
An ACL tear is one of the most common orthopaedic injuries involving the knee joint and can occur in almost any activity, from being tackled during a football game to stumbling up a flight of stairs. Once the ligament tears, it doesn’t heal. Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction removes the damaged ligament and replaces it with a graft. This procedure, followed by an aggressive rehabilitation program, can often restore the knee to optimal function following an ACL injury.
What once required extensive surgery, large incisions, a lengthy hospital stay and prolonged recovery can now be treated on an outpatient basis with minimal pain and scarring, getting patients back to doing the things they love in no time.
