Medical Play

Play is described as children’s work. Through play, a child’s world is exposed to others. Being in an unfamiliar environment, seeing strange faces and being separated from the child’s normal routine can cause fears and anxiety to surface. While these feelings may not be normal for your child, we encourage children to express their feelings through medical play. Therapist are available to provide medical play for patients using real and/or toy medical equipment. Medical play provides an outlet for patients who have undergone procedures, education for patients about to undergo a procedure and insight to any misconceptions the patient may have about the treatment, diagnosis or upcoming procedure.

Sibling Support

A Child Life therapist can help siblings cope when a sister or brother has health care needs and has been admitted to the hospital. Activities like medical play and art provide siblings with an outlet for expression as well as a safe place to ask questions about the brother’s or sister’s health.
