Venu Vemuri, D.O., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in all aspects of pediatric and adult spine surgery, with a special emphasis on minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Vemuri completed his medical education at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine/Midwestern University, where he was awarded the Orthopaedic Student of the Year for excellence in orthopaedics his senior year. After medical school he completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Midwestern University, where he served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Vemuri then completed advanced training in orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine surgery in Louisville in the Norton Leatherman Spine Fellowship program. After practicing for three years in Annapolis, Md., Dr. Vemuri returned to Louisville to join Norton Spine Specialists – Johnson & Vemuri.
Dr. Vemuri practices a patient-centered approach to care, ensuring he provides thorough, understandable explanations of spine disorders and answers patients’ questions. In addition, he believes surgery should only be considered after all nonsurgical treatment options have been exhausted. Dr. Vemuri strives to restore function from painful spinal conditions, so his patients can get back to enjoying life.
Dr. Vemuri offers comprehensive spine care for conditions such as degenerative arthritic conditions, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, fractures, myelopathy, scoliosis/kyphosis, tumors and infections. Using the latest techniques, Dr. Vemuri offers minimally invasive surgery, which can result in decreased blood loss, less tissue damage and faster recovery.
An accomplished cellist, Dr. Vemuri received a bachelor’s degree in cello performance from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and a master’s degree in cello performance from the world-renowned Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
He also enjoys running and staying fit, cooking, golfing, skiing, hiking and traveling. A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Vemuri is a lifelong fan and official stockholder of the Green Bay Packers. Above all, Dr. Vemuri enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Nadja and their newest member of the family, Giulia.
