Financial Report 2005

Norton Healthcare Financial Report 2005

Norton Healthcare continued to improve its financial performance in 2005, as it exceeded its key financial operating targets for the fifth consecutive year. Norton continued to reap the benefits of recent investments in facilities, technology, clinical information systems and employees, allowing it to control costs and provide patient care more efficiently. The 2.2 percent patient services margin represents yet another step toward Norton Healthcare's ultimate goal of 5 to 6 percent, which is the margin necessary to adequately reinvest in its health care facilities and services and to provide community support consistent with its not-for-profit mission. Highlights included:

  • Posting a $43 million bottom line (operating income), which represents a $21.2 million improvement (97 percent) from the $21.8 million recorded in 2004
  • Achieving a $23.3 million patient services margin (financial result from patient care services), a $19.9 million improvement (585 percent) from $3.4 million in 2004
  • Contributing a $59.8 million "community dividend" to charitable care, discounted services, community and professional education, and support for the University of Louisville
  • Improving cash flow from operations to $155.6 million, a $32.4 million improvement (26 percent) from $123.2 million in 2004
  • Recording $3 billion in gross revenues and ending 2005 with $1.3 billion in total assets
  • Improving net revenues to $1.05 billion, a $127.8 million improvement (14 percent) from $922.3 million in 2004
