Kosair Children’s Hospital, of Louisville KY, joined the 87 partner strong community network of Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky. Kosair Children’s Hospital, Kentucky’s only free-standing, full-service pediatric hospital, provides a complete range of medical and preventive services for more than 116,000 children and families annually from across the state and Southern Indiana.
“Each year we see dozens of children who are victims of abuse in our emergency department and critical care unit. As a leading provider of health care for children, it is our responsibility to help end child abuse,” said Therese Sirles, R.N., director of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Office of Child Advocacy of Kosair Children’s Hospital. “By coordinating the efforts of Kosair Children’s Hospital, our child abuse task force and Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, we can use strength in numbers to provide education and resources to protect Kentucky’s children.”
“We can’t Prevent Child Abuse, without Kentucky” said Laura Chowning, Community Development Coordinator at Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, a statewide non-profit focused on raising awareness and providing education surrounding the prevention of the abuse and neglect of Kentucky’s children. “We are a small staff of 11 individuals, working tirelessly to make Kentucky safer for children. We are honored by Kosair Children’s Hospital’s commitment to a like-minded mission, and grateful they are joining our network so all partners can learn from their talents. Their addition strengthens our statewide presence. We couldn’t do what we do without agencies like Kosair Children’s Hospital, and we are very grateful for their support”.
Last year, over 63,000 children were reported as being abused or neglected in the state of Kentucky.
