Cancer patients to celebrate at annual holiday party

Organized by Aiden’s Legacy

What:      Nearly 400 people – pediatric cancer survivors and their families – are registered for “A Holiday Celebration in ‘Hollywood:’ Larger than Cancer Style,” a holiday celebration party featuring crafts, games, caroling, a visit with Santa and lunch provided by Texas Roadhouse.

When:     Saturday, Nov. 18
noon to 3 p.m.

Where:    Kentucky Science Center
727 W. Main St.

Why:       Aiden’s Legacy was created in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital Foundation after Aiden’s second battle with cancer. For his family, it was a way to give back to the community, raising funds to support the Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Center at Norton Children’s Hospital. Aiden is now a two-time cancer survivor, having first beaten the disease that started at age two, and then most recently at age 8. He is now 13 years old. In addition to funds, the group also collects and distributes Legos – one of Aiden’s favorite things – to children at the hospital. Most of Aiden’s treatments have been as an inpatient at Norton Children’s Hospital, and he found that building with Lego blocks took his mind off being in the hospital, filled his days with something to do and actually allowed him to forget that he has cancer.

Other:     This is the fifth year for the event. It is sponsored by the Kentucky Science Center and Texas Roadhouse, with additional support from the Children’s Hospital Foundation and U of L Pediatrics.
