Heart disease in women: Laughter, love and learning is the theme of a daylong retreat

WomenHeart seminar will support women to achieve overall cardiovascular wellness

Heart disease knows no boundaries. Women of all ages experience various forms of heart disease — a disease that can leave you feeling helpless and alone.

Norton Heart & Vascular Institute, in coordination with WomenHeart, is hosting a Sept. 29 retreat for women living with heart disease. The retreat, titled “Healing the Heart – Mind, Body and Spirit,” will offer fun physical and creative exercises and an opportunity to connect with other women with a cardiovascular diagnosis. It is supported through a grant from the Norton Healthcare Foundation.

WomenHeart is a national support system with a local group facilitated through Norton Heart & Vascular Institute.

The WomenHeart retreat is on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Laws Lodge Conference Center at the Louisville Seminary, 1044 Alta Vista Road. Cost is $25 per person and includes breakfast and lunch.

  • The Rev. Amy Claire Helwig, M.Div., MAMFT, Norton Healthcare chaplain, will facilitate the retreat, providing insight into the importance of emotional and spiritual wellness within your health strategy.
  • Rachel J. Busse, M.D., family medicine physician with Norton Community Medical Associates – Highlands, will present tips for forming a personalized heart health nutrition plan as well as stress management.
  • Angela Greer, energy health coach and author, will lead a session on the importance of laughter, its health benefits and simple, fun and breathing exercises.

The WomenHeart program also offers monthly support groups on the first Wednesday of each month.
