Diabetes is on the rise in the United States
There are a couple of reasons for this dramatic increase. First, a large segment of the population – the so-called baby boomers – is aging, and Type 2 diabetes is more common in older people. And second, Americans are becoming increasingly overweight and sedentary, which can lead to several health problems, including diabetes.
Norton Healthcare is working hard to reach people who have Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as those who are at higher risk for developing diabetes because of family history or obesity. Several educational classes and support services are offered to adults on a regular basis through Norton Healthcare Diabetes Education Services, and Norton Children’s Hospital Endocrinology Services offers patient education during a hospital stay, a home health program for diabetes education and a support group “Just for Kids.” Get Healthy’s Jackie Hays has more details in this webisode.
